Found exclusively in New Zealand, the butterfish, also known as greenbone, are a sought-after catch among spearfishing enthusiasts. These distinctive fish are found along the rocky coastlines and kelp beds of New Zealand, making them a favourite target for spearfishermen as they wont take bait or lures.
Many seasoned spearos began their journey targeting the humble butterfish, honing their skills and developing a deep appreciation for the sport. For those passionate about diving pursuing butterfish is a write of passage. Their presence amongst the kelp make them a cherished species in the New Zealand spearfishing community.

I’ve been a collector of the doon river pins for awhile and have always been happy with my purchase, their pins are good quality and have great detail and design, unfortunately this time round my package was stolen (which was no one’s fault other than me not getting to the letter box in time) so I was unable to receive this specific pin , however despite this one getting away I’ll be back again to catch some more.
Aa always, these collectable fish pins craftmanship are brilliant. No story attached to this pin, I just want it for my No.1 dress fishing cap... As it will be a talking point when I wear it to the New Plymouth Sportfishing & Underwater Club...
